Ohhh how young they were !!!!  Now, why would anyone counterfeit a 50 center, when gold grows on trees here in Kalifornia.  Counterfeit bunnies and doggies from Eire.

I love spending "unusual" money. My bank had halves today, which is rare, so I took them. No silver  They will be fun to spend though. Last time I spent halves at a gas station the girl at the register was jumping up and down with excitement,

It is hard to get halves at the bank in our little town.  The hardware store gets them all and regularly gives them out in change.  I am sur ethat most people take them striaght back to the bank.

A couple of years ago I was getting on the train at Penn Station to go home and saw something shiny on the floor. I bent over and scooped up three mint state golden dollars.

Someone had most likely bought a $2 subway token with a $5 bill and received these in change.

"What is this crap!" they probably exclaimed and threw them down in disgust.

I was more than happy to pick them up and I still have them.

I seriously doubt that most Americans are ready for a dollar coin. I am, but I obviously like coins.

I just put in my latest order for golden dollars from the mint.  I was very interested to note the following addition to the web page:

" The immediate bank deposit of $1 Coins ordered through this Program does not result in their introduction into circulation and, therefore, does not comply with the intended purpose of the Program."

This never used to be there.  I would have to guess that people have been ordering the coins ($250 at a time) and immediately depositing them in their bank.  This, of course, is free money, because the credit card bill does not come round for several weeks.  I personally have never done this, although I have been tempted.   It now says:

"By clicking “Add to Cart” I agree that I understand, and will comply with, the intended purpose of the Program."

I have gone thru 1k of the ship direct from the mint. I have found a few that would grade well.

It's bar edicate in WI to leave money on the bar for future drinks, so I stack the gold dollars like poker chips. But don't mix with paper otherwise they assume they are quarters.

Cashiers at a couple of fast food places resfused to take them, till I raised hell and got the manager. It's legal tender baby, you have to take them!
